But lets start from the beginning: It turned out using the metro was not that much of a hassle, mostly because people were very friendly and helped me with directions. (Btw. the metoplan I linked in the last post only contained the state owned lines - I found out that there is another bunch of privately owned lines that adds up to that)

Finally exiting the Shibuya station was quite a surprise for me: I have been to the Times Square and found it impressive but this intersection kind of blew me away. It wasn’t much about the architecture itsself, but more about the sheer amount of people passing by instantly, and me standing there a - bit lost I have to admit. This picture continued throughout the other districts of Tokyo like Shinjuku (red light district), Roppongi, Asakusa , Ueno, (”old” Tokyo”) Akiharbara (electric town) and so on. People, more people and me standing there a bit lost looking around taking pictures. Thats basically what I have been up to in the first days - visiting those places, taking pictures, eating out, shopping and trying to understand bits of japanese. Shampa made sure I get so see a lot of places on the first weekend so in my memory they all kinda faded into one big impression of Tokyo, being a really crowded town, with lots of neon lights, ads everywhere, lots of suites and girls with short skirts and a crazy mix of architecture, where a 70 floor building stands next to a tiny hut, which turnes out to be a bar where only 3 people can fit in.

One word I could make out was sumimasen, which is used to get somebodys attention or just to say sorry if you stepped on somebodys foot or want to overtake him on the escalator. And since from my point of view the stereotype of the Japanese being very friendly and polite people turned out to be true, they just have to use this one over and over again. I actually got to like the japanese polite attitude a lot - it definitely makes things easier on a crowded subway or simply makes shopping and eating out really fun, because you are treated like a true king. Service is insanely good here - people greet you multiple times when you enter shops (even when you don’t buy anything the greet you on the way out), in retaurants you even sometimes get served free dishes and the waiters are so attentive that they almost read your mind and are instantly at your place when you are ready to order (btw. Its a shame that those guys providing such a great service are not supposed to get any tip, because its impolite)…

Blog Entry Tokyo 1

Shampa is doing an internship in Tokyo so this is the perfect possibility to visit my girlfriend, have a great time, experience a new culture and finally a possibility to satisfy my thirst for travelling. I will try to keep you guys updated about my current situation on this blog, finally making entries, that do not consist of pure blogspam and are rather personal.

To give you an idea about tokio and its pure dimensions I thought its best to post a map of the subway, which I have to travel tomorrow btw.

My plane is leaving tomorrow, I will arrive in Tokyo on Friday morning and then try to make my way to Shibuya where I will finally meet Shampa.

I have taken my new Fuji S8000fd camera with me to provide you with a lot of pictures of the places I am planing to visit. The plan so far is to go to Okinawa next week, which is the most south japanese island, having great beaches and an almost tropical climate. After that I will spend the next two weeks to explore Tokyo and maybe try to catch up on some basic japanse. Around the end of November two friends Paola and Michael will visit us in Tokyo. We are planing to make a bigger roundtrip with them to check off the most important cities off our list.

Fazit
Der Steuersatz steigt besonders zwischen 1000-1500€ Monatsgehalt an. Ich frage mich warum das so ist?
Ist es weil die Verteilung der Einkünfte aus nichtselbständiger Arbeit gerade hier ihren “Bauch” hat - also hier die meisten Leute zu finden sind? Sind es auch diejenigen, die für die grobe Masse der Steuern verantwortlich sind?

Warum nimmt die Steigung des Prozentsatzes nach 1500€ so deutlich ab? Will man so künstlich einen Sockel an Steuereinkünften generieren, den möglichst schnell und möglichst viele erreichen sollen?
